Obesity Treatment
Obesity is a condition in which the natural energy reserve, stored in the fatty tissue of humans exceeds healthy limits. Excessive body weight may cause many diseases & disorders such as heart failure, varicose veins, pulmonary embolism, diabetes, loss of sleep, osteoarthritis (degeneration of joints, especially knees), low back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, stroke, fatty liver disease, hernia, different types of cancer, erectile dysfunction, urinary incontinence, kidney failure, still birth (birth of a dead baby), stretch marks, dementia, depression, asthma, etc.

We treat obesity in 6 different ways:

(i). Electrotherapy (it includes Interferential therapy, Electrical Muscle stimulation, Cellotherm heat therapy & Vacuum therapy),
(ii). Exercise Therapy (through exercises),
(iii). Diet control,
(iv). Counseling & Psychotherapy (if the obesity is due to psychological / psychosomatic disorders),
(v). Drugs (specific medicines) &
(vi). Bariatric surgery.

People with a BMI (body mass index) of over 24.9 are counseled on diet, exercise and other relevant behavioral interventions, and set a realistic goal for weight loss. In severe cases i.e., whose BMI is over 37, drugs like sibutramine, orlistat, phentermine, diethylpropion, fluoxetine, and bupropion are used. In patients with BMI > 40 who fail to achieve their weight loss goals (with or without medication) and who develop obesity-related complications, are referred for bariatric surgery.
