Faqs

1) How to identify a good physiotherapy doctor?
Ans. A good & qualified physiotherapist never intends to decrease your pain first, but instead he will try to find out the cause for it & would try to treat the condition as a whole.  There are very few conditions (like post-surgical) where pain is to be decreased first. A good physiotherapist also explains you your condition in detail & also reveals you about the treatment to be done & the benefits that you are going to get with this treatment.

2) How to avoid low-back pain?
Ans.  Never do abnormal movements of the back.
Regular exercise is a MUST.
Avoid lifting heavy weights.
Do not bend at your spine to lift anything from the floor. Instead keep your back straight & bend at your knees & then you can lift anything up.
Check your weight regularly & do not put on weight in excess than your ideal weight.
If you drive a 2 wheeler, then check the shock absorbers of your vehicle regularly.

3) How to avoid neck pain?
Ans. Avoid abnormal movements of the neck.
Exercise regularly.
Swimming is BEST for maintaining the muscle power of neck & back.
Sit straight & look straight wherever you sit (may be in the chair or on the floor).
Don’t put a protruded neck while staring at your computer screen.
Don’t be in abnormal half-lying position while watching T.V or reading books.
Don’t sleep in a chair by putting the neck in abnormal positions.

4) What are the symptoms to identify a mentally retarded child?
Ans. At first, when the child is born please do not forget to note the child’s APGAR score, which will be revealed by the Gynaecologist & Paediatrician after the child is born.
Suspect the child if:

  1. The child gives any jerky movements of his limbs (hands & legs) regularly or at frequent intervals of time.
  2. Tensed & contracted muscles, constant, uncontrolled motion of limbs, head & eyes.
  3. The child’s milestones are delayed.
  4. Any sort of vision, speech, hearing and learning problems.
  5. The child has recently suffered from any critical infections (like Brain fever) or from a high fever & later if the child has developed any abnormal signs.
  6. The child’s physical growth is abnormal.
  7. There is a family history of mental retardation.
  8. The child met with any accidents which involved head injury or so.
  9. Poor sense of balance, often causing falls and stumbles.
  10. Uncontrollable shaking, interfering with coordination.

5) What can be done to reduce pain, at least temporarily?
Ans. REST is the best initial treatment for pain.
Any muscle pain can be reduced through hot water fomentation. For this as the words suggest, it shouldn’t be hot water, but it should be applied through lukewarm water & should be applied for longer time.

Any bony pain can be decreased temporarily by applying ice pack (Cryotherapy). To apply ice, a few ice cubes have to be taken in a hand kerchief & then should be applied on the affected area till that affected part becomes cool, then the area may loose sensation & once the sensation is lost, the ice cubes have to be removed from that part of the body. Otherwise, there are chances to get Ice Burn which is more painful than a normal heat burn.

Then contact your Doctor immediately & don’t take any pain killers or so without his suggestion.
